The structure of the Inter-Regional program is unique and a few words are in order to provide a better understanding of how the training program works. The Society has no permanent headquarters. Member analysts and training candidates meet twice a year in different cities in the United States and Canada to conduct business and training. During the rest of the year, training is carried on through Local Training Seminars. Training candidates must be affiliated with one seminar throughout their training. This structure offers a certain flexibility, but it also demands a good deal of self-motivation and direction.

Local Training Seminars are involved not only in the didactic component once training has begun, but in the admissions process as well. The initial step in applying to the training program involves participation in a six-month pre-application period in a Local Seminar. This allows the potential applicant to get a feel for the training program and allows the applicant and trainers to get to know each other before becoming engaged in a mutual commitment of many years. When the applicant is ready, screening interviews are conducted by Local Seminar analysts who must give their approval for the applicant to proceed to the IRSJA Admissions Committee interviews which take place at the annual spring meeting.

The Training Program is specifically postgraduate in character, and all applicants must possess at least a master’s degree to apply. The applicant must also provide confirmation of 100 hours of face-to-face personal analysis with an IAAP analyst. A more detailed explanation of the requirements needed to apply, including the academic qualifications and considerations, may be found by clicking Prerequisites for Admissions .

If Pre-Requisite requirements are met, the Admissions Procedures document will provide step by step instructions for proceeding through the admissions process, which begins with contacting a Local Training Seminar Coordinator to set up individual screening interviews to be accepted into a Local Seminar. Local Training Seminar Coordinators may be contacted directly and a list of the seminars and coordinators may be found in the Local Training Seminar and Admissions Coordinators document.

When the applicant is ready to proceed to the admissions interviews at the spring meeting of the Inter-Regional Society, the required Application Documentation and Materials must be sent to the Director of Admissions no later than March 1. Upon receipt of the required documents, the Admissions Director will notify the applicant of the date and place the interviews will be conducted.

A person seeking to transfer from another IAAP approved Institute must also apply to the Inter-Regional Program through the Admissions Committee by filing all application documents and fulfilling the requirement of affiliating with a Local Training Seminar with which they will train.
